After a magnificent effort, Smith Price finished as runners-up in the annual Nash Bond Retail Agents 6-a-side football tournament. And this was despite little preparation and the major disadvantage of playing four games back-to-back in temperatures akin to the 1970 World Cup in Mexico.
The competition, which was held in Battersea Park, saw the teams divided into two groups with hosts Nash Bond, Briant Champion Long and Capital Retail in one and Smith Price, CWM and Gooch Cunliffe Whale in the other. Having drawn their first game 2-2 against favourites CWM, the side battled past GCW and then Capital Retail, in the semi, to set-up a re-match with group nemesis CWM.
However, the three previous games seemed to take their toll as the side succumbed 2-0 in the final. One wonders what might have been had the firm’s promising sandwich student not been on international duty. It was nonetheless a fine effort and a good day was had by all, offering the firm a great opportunity to get out of the office and mix with other niche retail practices.
